GENERAL INFORMATION

 

In order to attend college you must complete the FAFSA. Before filing out the FAFSA,  you must first apply for a PIN at www.pin.ed.gov and complete the pre-application worksheet (both student and parent must apply for a pin number).  Once you have your pin numbers, you can begin apply on-line for the FAFSA after January 1, 2008 at www.fafsa.ed.gov .   Worksheets will be available in the Guidance Office or can be downloaded from the web-site. The FAFSA is your HOPE (lottery) scholarship application.

NAVY ROTC SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

4 YEAR COLLEGE AND NURSING SCHOLARSHIPS NOW AVAILABLE:  Apply as early as your Junior year.  If you are offered a scholarship, there is no obligation to accept it.  If you receive a scholarship, the first year of college is free with no obligation.  Minimum ACT scores are:  Math-22 and Verbal-22.  To begin the application process, visit the Navy ROTC website at www.nrotc.navy.mil

 
MARINE CORPS ' NROTC SCHOLARSHIP

Seniors interested in this scholarship need to talk with Mr. Jackson.  Basic requirements are: SAT-1000 or ACT combined math/English score of 45, physically fit, and morally sound.  You do not have to enlist in the Marine Corps to apply for the scholarship.  No application deadline was given.  Universities in this area offering Naval ROTC are Vanderbilt, University of Memphis, and Auburn.

NADC NASHVILLE AUTO-DIESEL COLLEGE

This scholarship provides a $1,000 tuition scholarship to NADC for any member of the current graduating class. Applications can be picked-up from and submitted to Mr. Jackson in the Guidance Office.  For more information about NADC, visit their website at www.nadcedu.com

 

 

 
 

March Deadlines

LILLARD SHADOW SCHOLARSHIP


Each year, VEC sponsors college scholarships for 4 graduating seniors whose parents or guardians are VEC customers. Scholarship awards are $500 per semester, renewable for up to 4 semesters. Applications are available in December of each year and the deadline for applications is in March. Applications are available from area high school guidance counselors or at any VEC service center. HAMPTON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

The Hampton Memorial Scholarship awards 10 $1,500 scholarships annually that may be renewed for up to three years. Students must meet the following criteria.

  • Have financial need

  • Be a high school senior from the state of Tennessee

  • Plan to attend an accredited nonprofit college, university, or vocational/technical school anywhere in the U.S. or abroad on a full-time basis.

SCHOLAR ATHLETE MILK MUSTACHE OF THE YEAR (SAMMY 2008)        

      Senior high school scholar athletes can submit their SAMMY applications online at www.whymilk.com   Applicants will be required to describe in 75 words or less how drinking milk has been a part of their life and training regimen.  Deadline for entries is March 4, 2008.

REX DOCKERY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

 

College-bound senior in Bradley County who participates in a varsity sport and does not already have a full scholarship—an athlete who puts team ahead of self.  Applicant must have plans to complete at least 4 years college curriculum.  A committee from WVHS will select two applicants for final consideration. Applicants will be evaluated on the following characteristics (in the listed order)—Character & Integrity, Attitude, Good Sportsmanship, Leadership, Enthusiasm, Gets along well with coaches, Gets along well with players, Desire for excellence, Average grades or above, Good school spirit, Participation in school activities & clubs.  Submission deadline:   March 7, 2008.

 

CHARLESTON RURITAN SCHOLARSHIP

 

    Any WVHS graduating senior planning to attend college is eligible to apply for this $600 scholarship.  Criteria considered for the award are academic merit, community service, extra-curricular involvement & financial need.  Applications are in the Counseling Office and must be in before the end of the school day--Tuesday March 11, 2008.

 

KATHERINE TREWITT SCHOLARSHIP

 

      Female senior who plans to pursue a career in education.     Application form plus personal letter plus photograph.  Letters of recommendation from two teachers.  Scholarship recipient and her parents will be guests of Lambda Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International meeting April 3, 2008.

Applications in the Counseling Office--postmark deadline on or before March 12, 2008. 

 

NORTH LEE RURITAN SCHOLARSHIP

 

    Applications are now available in the Counseling Office!!  Former North Lee students need to apply before March 15, 2008.

 

BBB BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU

 

Scholarships will be for graduating seniors and will be awarded in the amount of $1,000.  Students must meet the following criteria.

  • Graduating in 2008

  • Complete application form. 

  • Write an essay of 500 words or less

CLEVELAND/BRADLEY RETIRED TEACHERS ASSOCIATION

This $500 scholarship will be awarded to a senior in the Bradley County or Cleveland City School System attends Cleveland State Community College and majors in education. The scholarship will be deposited in the students account at Cleveland State in the second semester of study. Applications are available in the guidance office.

April Deadlines

 

RATTERMAN-SHELL MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

 

Designed for average, hardworking, well-rounded college-bound senior.  $2500  each year for 4 years. Applicants must have  GPA-2.5 or above and  ACT-19 or above. The Scholarship Committee will place strong emphasis on student involvement in many and varied school/community activities.  The application form,  a 200-250 word essay, official  transcript, and two letters of recommendation are to be submitted no later than April 1st.  Application forms are available in the Guidance Office.

 

 

 FCE (FAMILY & COMMUNITY EDUCATION)

            The FCE Clubs of Cleveland is offering (3) $200 cash scholarships to 3 seniors. Applications will be accepted from graduating high school senior girls planning to attend an accredited institution of higher learning as a full-time undergraduate student for the coming year. A minimum GPA of 3.0 is required. Applications are available in the guidance office.

$400--$1200 UAW SCHOLARSHIPS

 Write a 300 to 500 word essay on the topic "What Organized Labor Means to Me"  for an opportunity to win  up to $1200 in scholarship money to be used at the college of your choice.  For more information, check with the Guidance Department.

  KIWANIS CLUB OF CLEVELAND

MILLENNIUM SCHOLARSHIP

 

$1,000 scholarship

 

Scholarship requirements:  Bradley County resident, financial need, and merit.  Submit application and school transcript to Kiwanis Club of Cleveland by mid-April.  Applications now available in Guidance Office.

BCEA SCHOLARSHIP

 

SCHOLARSHIP AMOUNT: $500

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be a Walker Valley High Student pursuing an education degree

Applications are available in the guidance office.

ANCHOR CLUB SCHOLARSHIP

given by Pilot Club of Cleveland

 

SCHOLARSHIP AMOUNT: $750

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be an active member of Anchor Club in a local school in Bradley County

  • Complete attached application

  • Write a brief essay (500 words or less) describing your experiences and how you have benefited from being a member of Anchor Club while in school..

  • Two letters of recommendation

  • Photograph (attached to application)

  • Copy of transcript (including GPA, class rank and ACT scores)

May Deadlines

MITSUI USA SCHOLARSHIPS IN TENNESSEE PROGRAM

 

Amount: $2500

           The Mitsui USA Scholarships in Tennessee Program is open to graduating high school seniors who are U.S.

citizens or permanent residents; who have been residents of Tennessee for the past five years; and who have an

un-weighted, cumulative grade point average of B (3.0) or better. Successful applicants will also have

completed all college core and university track courses and demonstrate 1) an ability to communicate clearly in

written English; 2) a personal and/or career interest in multi-cultural and International Affairs, and/or an

aptitude for foreign language study; additionally 3) involvement in community volunteer activities or leadership

roles will be considered favorably.

CLEVELAND STATE ACCESS AND DIVERSITY GRANT

 

The Access and Diversity Grant may cover up to $1,000 per semester hours.

 

To qualify:

 

A. Student must meet ALL of the following qualifications:

  1. Have minimum 2.0 GPA

  2. Apply and be accepted for admission to CSCC

  3. NOT have a Bachelor's degree

  4. Must enroll for fall and spring semesters

  5. File for the FAFSA ( www.fafsa.gov )

B. And meet at LEAST one of the following criteria:

  1. Be a first generation college student

  2. Qualify for Federal Pell Grants

  3. Maintain a permanent residence in a county other than Bradley
