Walker Valley High School Standard of Dress The Standard of Dress is a guide to appropriate dress provided to enhance the learning environment for students at Walker Valley High School. •1. Headwear must be removed upon entering the building. This includes all hats and hoods. •2. No unnaturally colored hair or visible body piercing with the exception of the ear will be allowed. Piercings in the ear are the only visible piercings that are acceptable to the standard of dress. •3. Tops must cover the abdomen, back, shoulders, and cleavage at all times. All tops must have a three-inch sleeve and cannot advertise, advocate or display alcoholic beverages, tobacco products, illegal substances, profanity, sexual innuendoes, or racially or religiously inflammatory language. If a t-shirt is to be worn it is to be a shirt that has a direct relationship to Walker Valley, an institution of higher learning or a branch of the military service. Layering is acceptable as long as the outer wear meets the criteria above and remains on throughout the day. Unacceptable items include, but are not limited to items with a low neckline, see through material or shirts that acknowledge other secondary schools. •4. At minimum the hem of bottom wear must approach the knee. If jeans and other acceptable pants are worn and are distressed (holes), the holes must be below the knees. Distressed areas in these pants are not to show skin above the knee. Skin-tight items such as leggings or tights are to be covered by bottom wear of appropriate length as stated above. Sagging, bagging, flagging or any type of gang identification clothing or paraphernalia is not acceptable dress. (This includes gothic dress). •5. Items such as sweatpants, sleepwear, loungewear and gym shorts are not conducive to the learning environment and do not meet the standard of dress. •6. In matters of opinion, judgment of the administration will prevail.
